Writing is exciting and calm at the same time. You can write for pleasure, you can write as a hobby or you can decide to turn this into your career. Is there a magic recipe that can make you a good writer? Not really. However, there are things that will increase your chances of success!
Become a reader first
It is vital to read as much as you can in order to become a good writer. There is no other way to understand how to create a natural flow, how to embrace new ideas and characters and how to put yourself in your reader’s shoes.
Since not all people love reading, you can start with something light and funny if lecture is not among your hobbies. Don’t go running for heavy, classic books; there’s a chance you will get bored quickly and give up.
As an alternative, you can also start reading blogs and online articles. While they are not as recommended in order to form a good writing style, it is a good starting point.
Write anything that makes you feel good
Especially in the beginning, you might be tempted to write pieces that can entertain an audience. However, the chances for this to happen are very small. It will take a while before you will discover your style and flow.
When you start writing, write anything and everything that makes you feel good. It does not matter how small it seems or if it’s simply a description of a lovely moment; the more feelings you put into it, the better.
Improve your grammar
No matter how much you paid attention to your grammar classes in high school, for sure there are some things you missed or forgot. It is very important to have an impeccable grammar, no matter if you are an amateur or a professional writer.
Luckily, there are many tools that can help you correct your grammar without having to do it by hand, but this should not replace your proofreading.
Put yourself out there
Yes, writing feels very intimate and many people hesitate when it comes to showing others what they wrote. On the other hand, this is the only way to let other people read your content and to get valuable feedback that will help you improve in the future.
An alternative to this is to simply publish your content online under a different name; you will get the feedback and the acknowledgement, without sharing too much about your personal life.
